The History of The Double Nickel Club of Channelview, Texas
The Double Nickel Club of Channelview, Texas was established on Friday, June 7, 1996. The meetings are held at St. Andrews Catholic Church located at 827 Sheldon Road, Channelview, TX. The Double Nickel Club meetings are on the Second Thursday of every month with the exception of June and December. The meetings begin at 10:00am. In June we celebrate the anniversary of the Double Nickel Club. In December we celebrate Christmas. The dates on these two events will vary.
We make donations of money or items to the following organizations at Church: With OEC we provided school supplies, The teachers let us know what they need and as an organization we try to provide the items. We make donations to the Church for our Bazaar. It can be, money and/or items for the different booth. Many of our group help out at the different booths and money counting. We help out in any way we can. During lent members help lead the Stations of the Cross.
For fun, we take trips. Some of our trips were: Dolphin Boat Tour, Shangri La, Railroad Museum, Christmas Lights, Tomball Museum & Train Depot, Magical Winter Lights, Pasadena Hometown Opry, Bayou Wildlife in Alvin, Pasadena Senior Expo, and many more.
We have attended many Bingo events beside playing Bingo after our meetings. After some meetings we have pot luck!.
We have visited Nursing homes: MT Batton Retirement Home and Bridgecrest
We invite different people to come in and speak on varies topic. The topics could be about insurance, health, how to keep ourselves safe, and legal items.
And there is Ruppert! Ruppert is a stuffed animal. At the beginning Ruppert would stay with a member for a year but later it as changed to six months. Once the year or six month was over, the member would need to write and read the story about Ruppert’s adventures with them. His binder is really thick. He has traveled around America and he even went to Europe.
